Wyoming athletes achieved several milestones at the Doug Max Invitational in Fort Collins, Colorado, on May 2. Freshman Jackson Aydelott broke a nearly five-decade-old outdoor school record in the 400-meter race, while seven other top-10 program times were set during the final regular-season meet.
The significance of these performances is reflected in both individual and team achievements. For Wyoming’s men’s team, sophomore Austin Akers started strong by finishing fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Senior Dylan van der Hock led his teammates in the 5,000 meters with an eighth-place finish. In the highly competitive 1,500 meters, senior Mac Zastrow recorded a personal best that moved him to fourth all-time for Wyoming.
The men’s relay teams also posted notable results. The new combination of Ryan Elsen, Jackson Aydelott, Bridger Norton and Carter McComb ran a time of 40.20 seconds in the 4×100-meter relay—good for second place and now ranked second-best ever for Wyoming. Aydelott later returned to break the outdoor school record in the individual 400 meters with a third-place time of 46.43 seconds.
Field events saw freshman Ayden Mills achieve a personal best in hammer throw and senior Cam Burkett secure second place in shot put with consistent throws over eighteen meters. Sophomore Christian Edwards earned second place and a personal best mark in long jump.
On the women’s side, Cowgirls Marina Trave and Gracie Uhre finished second and third respectively in their first event of the day—the women’s 5,000 meters—while junior Hailey Uhre posted a converted time that now ranks fifth all-time at Wyoming for outdoor competition over 1,500 meters. Sophomore Eva Dellorco won her heat of the women’s 400-meter dash with a personal best performance.
Other highlights included Koi Adderley placing fourth overall with her season-best high jump clearance; Kaitlyn Gallo achieving sixth place with her top hammer throw; Teagan Becker setting a new personal record to take third place in shot put; Gabbreiella Mendoza-Molina running under one minute for victory—and tying seventh all-time—in women’s hurdles; and Desirae Iacovetto breaking through to finish under twenty-five seconds for second place in her heat of the women’s sprint event.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls will have one week off before heading into postseason competition at the Credit Union One Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships scheduled from May 14–16.
