Senator Cynthia Lummis from Wyoming issued a statement after the federal government dismissed criminal charges against Charles and Heath Maude. The South Dakota ranchers had been involved in a land dispute with the Biden administration.

Lummis shared her perspective, stating, “The political prosecutions during the Biden administration weren’t just focused on destroying President Trump – they also went after hardworking ranchers trying to run a small family operation.” She expressed relief and gratitude that key figures such as Secretary Rollins, Secretary Bondi, and former President Trump resolved the issue in favor of the Maude family. Lummis, with her background as a rancher, emphasized that government efforts should target actual criminals rather than people managing generational farming and ranching operations.

The charges against the Maude family originated from allegations of theft of federal property. These charges were related to a dispute over a fence line that was established before either of the Maudes were born.
