The Boulder community is invited to celebrate Winter Bike to Work Day on Friday, Feb. 10, by traveling to work on their bikes and enjoying free breakfast, bike classes and a bike home happy hour.

Participants are encouraged to pledge to ride, which helps the city measure the impact of biking and walking. Breakfast stations in and around Boulder will be serving free food and drinks from 7 to 9 a.m. Community members that aren’t commuting to work can still celebrate by taking their bike out for a morning, lunchtime or after-work ride.

“We are thrilled to be able to celebrate winter bicycle commuting again this year and encourage you to get out there on Feb.10 — even if you consider yourself a ‘fair weather rider,’” said Sue Prant, Executive Director at Community Cycles. “You might be surprised at how easy it is to plan for the weather and have an enjoyable ride.”

“We’re excited to celebrate this event with the community and appreciate our event partners for helping make this possible,” said Natalie Stiffler, Interim Director of Transportation and Mobility.

The community can sign up for free bike workshops hosted by Community Cycles to support their winter commute and celebrate the event, including:

— Maintenance 101: Feb. 8 at 5:30 p.m.

— Fix a Flat: Feb. 15 at 5:30 p.m.

This year also continues the tradition of a bike home happy hour with free appetizers and giveaways at the Roadhouse Depot at Boulder Junction from 4 to 7 p.m. The event is hosted by the City of Boulder, Boulder Transportation Connections and Community Cycles.

Winter Bike to Work Day is a statewide celebration. The City of Boulder, Boulder Transportation Connections (BTC), Boulder County and Community Cycles partner to bring this signature community event to Boulder, including over 25 free breakfast stations in the county hosted by local companies and organizations in Boulder, Longmont, Superior, Niwot and Louisville. The event supports the City of Boulder’s Transportation Master Plan and Boulder County’s Transportation Master Plan goals.

Community Cycles coordinates the event and is a local nonprofit organization that provides education and advocacy to improve bicycling in Boulder. Boulder Transportation Connections promotes transportation choices that are efficient and sustainable and enhance the Boulder community as a great place to live, work and play.
