WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senate Western Caucus Chair Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) and 6 Senate Western Caucus members have called on President Joe Biden to withdraw Julie Su's nomination as Secretary of Labor. The demand was made through a letter highlighting concerns about Su's actions during her tenure as Acting Secretary without Senate confirmation.
"Julie Su has done nothing but deliver one price hike after another for family-run businesses in Wyoming and throughout the west that are already struggling under the burden of record-high operating costs due to inflation and sky-high interest rates," expressed Lummis in the letter.
The letter also pointed out the potential bias in Su's approach towards industries crucial to states like Idaho. Senator Risch stated, "Julie Su’s record at the Department of Labor suggests a significant bias against many industries important to Idaho, including mining and agriculture."
Senator Daines added to the criticism, stating, "Julie Su is another one of President Biden’s radical nominees who poses a threat to our Montana and Western way of life." Along the same lines, Senator Thune emphasized, "Julie Su remains the wrong choice to lead the U.S. Department of Labor."
The collective effort by Senators Mike Crapo, Jim Risch, John Thune, Kevin Cramer, Steve Danies, and John Hoeven, alongside Lummis, underscores the unified stance against Su's nomination.
The concerns raised in the letter reflect a broader sentiment within the Senate Western Caucus regarding the impact of Su's policies on various industries in the western states. The demand for the withdrawal of Su's nomination signals a clear call for a different approach to the leadership of the Department of Labor.
