U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming has successfully advanced legislation aimed at enhancing drought preparedness and addressing water scarcity in Wyoming and the western United States. The Senate passed the bipartisan Water Data Improvement Act and the Drought Preparedness Act by unanimous consent, moving them forward to be signed into law by the president.

Senator Lummis emphasized the importance of these measures on the Senate floor, stating, "The west’s ability to continue leading our nation in cutting-edge water conservation and management hinges on preserving proven policies that mitigate drought threats." She further stressed the need for urgent action to ensure state, local, and Tribal governments are well-equipped to handle droughts and strengthen water infrastructure across Wyoming and other western states.

These legislative efforts underscore a commitment to bolstering water conservation initiatives amid growing concerns about water scarcity in arid regions of the country.
