Senate Western Caucus Chair Cynthia Lummis and her colleagues have voiced strong opposition to the Biden administration's recent decision to ban new domestic offshore oil and gas exploration. The move, described as a last-minute effort by the administration, has sparked criticism from several senators.
"For four years, President Biden has waged war against American energy and has abused every ounce of power at his disposal to unjustly punish domestic energy producers at the expense of American jobs and our national security," said Lummis. She emphasized that the policy could lead to significant job losses in the energy sector.
Senator Cruz echoed similar sentiments, stating, "The Biden administration has waged war on American energy and is intent on continuing that war until the very last minute." He criticized the impact on high-paying jobs for Texans and other Americans.
Senator Daines expressed concern about what he termed a move to appease environmentalists. "This is nothing but a last-ditch attempt by the Biden administration to appease radical environmentalists who want to cripple made-in-America energy," he said.
Senator Cassidy added, "It’s only fitting that as a parting shot, Joe Biden’s war on American energy and the American energy worker continues." He pointed out that this action affects well-paying jobs in the energy sector.
With less than 30 days remaining until President Trump assumes office, President Biden announced plans to sign an executive order prohibiting new drilling rights sales in parts of the outer continental shelf. This decision marks a significant development in U.S. energy policy under his administration.
