U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis, representing Wyoming, has introduced the No American Land for Communist China Act. The proposed legislation aims to prevent the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) from purchasing farmland adjacent to federal lands in an effort to protect critical mineral and energy production sites as well as U.S. military infrastructure from potential surveillance.
Senator Lummis emphasized the importance of safeguarding national interests by stating, "Putting America First means preventing the Chinese Communist Party from buying up western land and putting our military bases, critical energy, and mineral production at risk." She expressed concerns about how such acquisitions could compromise both national and economic security.
Senator Mike Crapo echoed these sentiments by highlighting the risks associated with allowing CCP purchases of western lands. He noted that it poses threats to national security and encroaches on America's natural resources. "We must protect Idaho and our western neighbors from threats seen and unseen," said Crapo.
Further supporting this initiative, Senator John Barrasso underscored Wyoming's role in critical energy and mineral production, mentioning its strategic importance due to F.E. Warren Air Force Base. He stated, "Opening the door to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) puts our national security and domestic energy production at risk."
The legislation seeks to ban any CCP-affiliated agents or businesses from acquiring land next to federal property in the United States. Senators John Barrasso, Mike Crapo, Tim Sheehy of Montana, and Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee have cosponsored this legislative measure.
In parallel efforts within the House of Representatives, Representative Dan Newhouse introduced a companion bill.
