The University of Wyoming Opera Theatre will present a semi-staged production of Johann Strauss II’s comic operetta “Die Fledermaus” on May 8 and May 9 at the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall.
The performances are free and open to the public, providing an opportunity for audiences to experience a classic work of Viennese operetta. This marks the first time in over ten years that the program has staged this production.
“Die Fledermaus,” known as “The Revenge of the Bat,” is celebrated for its melodies, comedic misunderstandings, and colorful characters. The story centers around a masquerade ball where Gabriel Eisenstein’s schemes lead to humorous complications, complemented by lively performances from his maid Adele and other characters.
Two principal casts will perform across both nights, joined by members of the Laramie Civic Chorus. Magdalena Wór serves as stage director with Gyejun Baek as pianist and O’Neil Jones as chorusmaster. The Friday cast includes Joseph Gilbar, Dakota Hansen, and Olivia Satterthwaite; Saturday’s performance features Jeffrey Cuevas, Kathryn Harding, and Rhiannon Kilduff.
