The University of Wyoming Wind Symphony will present its concert, “Dare to Dream Big,” on April 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall.
The event marks the opening performance of the inaugural UWYO Band Summit, a new three-day music festival at the university aimed at fostering artistic growth and musical connections among high school musicians and educators in the region.
Conducted by Matthew Schlomer, the wind symphony features some of the university’s most accomplished wind and percussion musicians. The program includes contemporary works such as Harrison Collins’ “Unstoppable,” for which the ensemble recently produced a professional recording, and Anthony Plog’s “Three Scenes for Six Trumpets and Wind Ensemble,” making its regional premiere. The concert also includes two movements from David Maslanka’s “A Child’s Garden of Dreams.”
Guest conductors Ashton Tyler and Malori Barnhart will lead performances of Eric Whitacre’s “Sleep” and John Powell’s “How to Train Your Dragon,” respectively. Tickets are available online, by phone, or in person at the Performing Arts box office during regular hours or before performances.
The UWYO Band Summit offers high school students opportunities to work with faculty through masterclasses and sectionals while experiencing campus life. Music educators participating in the summit can take part in professional development sessions focused on conducting and teaching techniques.
For more information about tickets or participation, interested individuals may contact Matthew Schlomer by phone or email.
