Wyoming Cowboys men’s basketball head coach Sundance Wicks announced on May 8 the addition of four new players to the team’s roster for the 2026-27 season. The incoming players are Parker Gerrits, a guard from Washington State; Mattia De Martin, a guard from Indian Hills Community College; Linus Ruf, a center from Germany; and Renars Sondors, a forward from Louisiana Monroe.
The announcement highlights an off-season focus on retaining current talent while seeking recruits who fit the program’s culture and needs. “Recruiting our current roster was priority number one this off-season and that was extremely successful,” Wicks said. “Bringing back KB, Naz, Gaz, Uriyah & redshirt Neil Summers, we return 50% of our production, so now the emphasis is on finding F.I.T.S. Recruiting players who have high feel, intelligence, toughness & skill to compliment a core of Cowboys who are committed to competing for a championship. We are going to be very intentional about finding OKC’s who can build upon the character and culture that the 2025-26 Cowboys established.”
Wicks described Gerrits as “a winner” with strong shooting ability and work ethic: “We got a gem out of the evergreen state… Parker is a winner, a culture carrier… He can really shoot the basketball and that gravity will be a massive weapon.” Gerrits appeared in 63 games over two seasons at Washington State.
On De Martin’s addition after his time at Indian Hills Community College in Iowa and experience representing Italy in international play, Wicks said: “What an absolute steal we found in Mattia… The thing that really gets me going about Mattia is his passing ability and his ability to stretch the floor.” De Martin played in both European leagues and college basketball before joining Wyoming.
Ruf joins from Germany’s Pro A League teams Reasta Vechta and Artland Dragons. Wicks praised Ruf as an experienced big man ready for Mountain West competition: “Landing an experienced big man that can quickly assimilate to the Mountain West is no small task and we found that player in Linus Ruf.” Ruf has also represented Germany at national tournaments.
Sondors arrives after two seasons at Louisiana Monroe with previous success on Latvia’s national team. According to Wicks: “Aim small, miss small… Renars was an early target and someone we knew after getting to know was going to be a great FIT for our culture.” Sondors won gold at the Under-18 European Championship with Latvia.
The additions aim to strengthen Wyoming’s lineup by blending returning production with new skills developed through collegiate experience abroad or within other U.S. programs.
