Beginning Wednesday, January 18, Mayor Kathy Sheehan will join a bipartisan group of hundreds of mayors from across the country for the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) 91st Winter Meeting. The annual gathering in Washington, DC provides an opportunity for mayors to collaborate, share best practices, and engage with top federal officials on the issues most important to cities like Albany. The Meeting will also focus on implementation of recently enacted laws that provide significant funding opportunities for American cities.

As Vice Chair of the USCM Women Mayors Leadership Alliance, Mayor Sheehan will co-host a plenary session on Thursday, January 19, at 4:15 p.m. entitled “The Impact of Female Leaders: Being Agents of Change & Shaping Our Communities for Future Generations.”

Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan said, “I am looking forward to being together again with my fellow mayors for the U.S. Conference of Mayors 91st Winter Meeting. After President Biden, Senate Majority Leader Schumer, Senator Gillibrand, and Congressman Tonko delivered for Albany and cities across the nation with the American Rescue Plan Act, Inflation Reduction Act, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and the CHIPS and Science Act, mayors are focused on utilizing these legislative victories to benefit our residents in every way possible. This gathering will be an opportunity to learn from one-another, share best practices, and meet with our federal leaders to continue advocating for additional investments to revitalize our infrastructure, enhance public safety, combat climate change, expand mental health services, and create more affordable housing.”

USCM President and Miami (FL) Mayor Francis Suarez said, “For the U.S. Conference of Mayors, the Winter Meeting is a key opportunity for mayors to collaborate on the solutions, ideas, and opportunities that can power our cities and communities to even higher highs, especially in the face of gridlocked government in Washington. Whether we’re a Democrat, Republican, or Independent, mayors share the same goal: improve the lives of all our residents. And at the Winter Meeting, we can collaborate to do just that.”
