Senator Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming has published an op-ed emphasizing President Donald Trump's initiatives to reverse the previous administration's energy policies. Lummis argues that Wyoming is a crucial part of this strategy.
Lummis contends that under President Joe Biden, energy prices rose significantly due to policies she describes as anti-energy. She remarks, "energy prices increased by over 30% as a direct result of his disastrous anti-energy agenda."
According to Lummis, President Trump is making significant changes aimed at revitalizing American energy production. Trump declared a national energy emergency and reversed the pause on LNG export permits. He also opened new federal lands and offshore locations for resource extraction. Lummis highlights that under "the leadership of EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, the administration is protecting mining jobs out west and reversing the Biden administration’s assault on U.S. energy."
Lummis praises Trump for supporting traditional energy sources like coal. "Trump has been an ally and friend of coal country," she writes, contrasting his stance with what she describes as the Democrats' focus on renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power.
Wyoming's involvement in the energy sector is underscored by its long-standing role as the country's top coal producer, a position it has maintained since the 1980s. Lummis also notes the state's efforts in nuclear energy development, highlighting a new-generation advanced reactor under construction in Kemmerer that will supply energy to many homes.
Furthermore, Lummis claims, "Wyoming contains the largest uranium deposits in the country," positioning the state as a potential leader in nuclear energy production. She believes that Wyoming's resources are essential for America to achieve "energy dominance."
Lummis concludes by expressing optimism, stating, "The Biden administration’s full-scale assault on Wyoming energy will take years to undo, but I’m pleased that Trump and his administration are already making headway and bringing American energy back."
Senator Lummis serves on the Senate Banking, Commerce, and Environment and Public Works committees, representing Wyoming.
